This DVD is the first in a series of four, based around the Shetland seasons - Winter, Voar, Simmer and Hairst. Consisting of three short films, made up of stills and film clips, the beautiful traditional Shetland music offers the perfect accompaniment. We have recorded the music in-house (in croft really!) with the help of Jim Leask, a brilliant traditional Shetland fiddle player. UK Television, Channel 4, FourDocs Editor wrote about Up-Helly-Aa “A delightful film mostly assembled from stills, but occasionally (and magically) breaking into snatches of movie. It catches the celebrations of the Up Helly Aa festival held on the island of Shetland in January every year - a fire festival lasting all night when a replica Viking boat is burned.
